Outfit #8: Styled By

I was still sick on this day when Charlotte V. picked out my outfit for the second time.

Today Charlotte dressed me in some items of her own:

A grey knee-length skirt from GAP
Blue denim vest

As well as my own items:
White Shirt
Lavender sweater
Black tights
Boots

This outfit was good to wear because it was surprisingly comfortable while remaining stylish. I was afraid to be uncomfortable while I was also sick, but this outfit made me feel better, actually. I thought that the vest would look really silly but it was so much fun to wear. I think tucking in the sweater was key. The whole thing looked well put together.

I would normally not have let the same person pick my outfit twice, but this was a special case: I was sick, nobody else picked one soon enough, I hadn't had one the day before. After previous disappointments, this was a good relief.

Notably: Charlotte V. also allowed me to pick out her outfit the next day. It was a good move! It was interesting to feel the little bit of power (or, at lot, perhaps) from picking out another person's clothes. The outfit I mostly picked for her I actually never got to see, sadly, but it was very exciting to do. Most of the items were from her grandmother and emitted a sort of blue/yellow yacht/afternoon cocktail vibe, I believe.

Outfit #7: Little Sicky

Monday FEB 23, 2009 I experienced another sad-time.

Nobody picked out my outfit for this day.

Also: I was feeling extremely ill, so I dressed myself in comfy-wears.

I wore only black and white on this day.

Outfit #6: Styled By Charlotte

Outfit #6 was picked out by Charlotte V.

I enjoyed wearing this outfit, similarly to#4, very much! It was made up of my clothing but in an intense and interesting way that wearing it felt like a really new experience.

Here's what Charlotte picked out:

Ac5: tawny brown sweater with white racehorse on it
C10: 1950s bright orange cotton dress, side pockets, high neck, back buttons
brown thick cotton tights
Da2: brown boots, cole haan
two gold bangles
gold and orange earrings from my grandmother

She wanted to straighten my hair, but, because of scheduling conflicts, I made it as straight as I could on my own.

I loved this outfit! I got a lot of compliments on it and I felt very stylish and comfortable. It felt very feminine to wear it somehow. I didn't think the sweater would work over the dress at first but it did, and kept me warm. I also worn it over the shoulder, prep-school/yacht-mom style.

OUTFIT #6 was worn FEB 17th, 2009.

OUTFIT #5: A Disappointing Time

On Monday FEB 16, 2009 nobody picked out an outfit for me.

This was my first disappointment doing the project.

I had to dress myself on this day.

Outfit #4: Styled by Ivy P.

This oufit was picked out by Ivy P.

Items included:
C4- red plaid cotton dress
red, turquoise and pink silk neck scarf
black tights
Ac15- bright red sweater
black boots

OUTFIT #4 was worn on FEB 10th, 2009.

I really loved wearing this outfit. It was all made up with my own clothing but with a dress that I haven't really ever worn because I thought it would look silly. My mother gave it to me. But I really loved wearing it and I think the outfit was styled well to my personal tastes, which was quite fun. It felt good to wear this outfit.

Jeanine O. said: "You look like a stewardess." This only increased the outfit's appeal for me.

Everyone seemed to like the outfit, saying it looked good on me, which was encouraging.

I didn't imagine myself as a stewardess, rather, I imagined chilling with some of these:

Outfit #3: Styled by Jane

This outfit was picked out by Jane Q.

Jane gave me an assortment of items to wear:
a onesey/jumpsuit
a Wu-Tang Clan teeshirt
a large wooden butterly necklace

She also requested a side pony-tail.
When it got cold, I sometimes wore a black sweatshirt as well.

THIS OUTFIT MADE QUITE A STIR.
I felt very silly wearing this outfit but it was recieved with either (a) no comment or (b) much vigor, depending on who was looking. I felt that I could aptly wear the onesey-jumper as a kind of cool look for myself but the Wu-Tang definitely put it over the top. Jane seemed very satisfied with this outfit on the whole, as did most of my friends.

It did not elicit the one memorable remark from wearing Noah S.'s outfit (#2), which was, "Are you trying out for Slipknot?" Perhaps then there was improvement in the eyes of the general public.

OUTFIT #3 was worn FEB 9th, 2009.

Outfit #2: Styled By Noah

"i want to dress you. i want you to wear this jumpsuit i have. i don't care when. it will just rule."

-Noah, January 31st 2009

This outfit was picked out by Noah S. and included a blue jumpsuit he had.

The jumpsuit was rather large and I wore a plain white tee-shirt and black leggings underneath to keep warm, as well as boots.

Wearing Noah's jumpsuit made me feel at once powerful and strong (like I could be fixing someone, anyone's sink, motorcycle, etc), I also felt a little ill at ease at first. Many people had not remembered that I was doing a performance project, and so were very confused.

Ordinary tasks such as going to an 8 am meeting, picking up interlibrary loan books, working at the help desk and ordering a tea were now both hilarious and awkward. Mostly nobody said anything about my outfit. At this seemed very unusual but then I got used to it. The jumpsuit was a little itchy but also kind of cool in that I felt a sudden kinship with the janitors I encountered heading toward the bathroom.

Over the jumpsuit experience was positive. One Margaret W. was injured (bruise on her side) in a frantic attempt to get near me upon seeing the jumpsuit. Otherwise none was harmed.

OUTFIT #2 was worn FEB 3rd, 2009.
